Danny's update - Nanchung

Day 5, Tuesday November 4, 2008

Tuesday was a free day for us, but we still ended up pretty busy. We enjoyed an American breakfast (If you can call it that), and then left for the so called pedestrian street. This was a street in which there were no motor vehicles allowed, and shops lined the sides. You could consider it like an outdoor mall. We were very lucky that there no vehicles were allowed there; because it seems like most of traffic “laws” here are merely traffic “suggestions”. This creates crossing the street an interesting game and constructs traffic jams only a hovercraft could get out of.  (see picture; this is outside our hotel room window).

Also the poor translation of Chinese signs doesn’t help us out any. As one read on the Great Wall “speaking cell phone is strictly prohibited when thunderstorm”, and another “beware of fireproof.” It is that they don’t even try to get it right. But, overall China has been an amazing experience, Elizabeth has truly been a gift from God, and I can’t wait to return home!
